Diego Rivera - Mexican Hero

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Born in Mexico, Diego Rivera is considered one of the greatest Mexican painters of the twentieth century due to the profound effect he had on the international art world. Among his many contributions, Rivera is credited with the reintroduction of fresco painting into modern art and architecture. In a series of visits to America, the artist brought his unique vision to public spaces and galleries, inspiring artists and art lovers. Diego Rivera was fond of propaganda. In Mexico, he painted public murals depicting revolutionary politics, and he attempted to convey the dream of a socialist utopia to the people of Mexico. His work rendered him one of Latin America’s most intriguing artists.

Rise to fame
Through public art projects, Rivera was able to introduce his work in the everyday life of the people. He concerned himself primarily with the physical process of human development and the effects of technological progress. Throughout the 1920s, his fame grew with a number of large murals depicting scenes from Mexican history. His work appealed to the people’s interests and his popularity quickly spread.

In America
In 1930, Rivera’s many trips to the United States changed American painting. His first two major American commissions were the American Stock Exchange Luncheon Club and the California School of Fine Arts, which firmly but subtly incorporated Rivera’s radical politics. He believed that history could be depicted in art by representing the struggles of the working class.

Controversy in art
In a Rockefeller commission, Rivera painted a mural detailing a scene of a giant May Day demonstration of workers marching with red banners. Patrons were shocked by the portrait of Lenin leading the demonstration. When Rivera refused to remove the portrait, he was ordered to stop work and the painting was destroyed. Subsequently, Rivera found it difficult to secure commissions for murals, even in his home country. The dedication to his cause made him a favorite among common people who embraced ‘Diego Rivera Mexican Hero’.

Return to Mexico
When Rivera returned to Mexico, he sought to renew national art based on revolutionary themes that would adorn public buildings following the Mexican Revolution. He painted murals for the Preparatory School and the Ministry of Education in Mexico City and the Agricultural School of Chapingo. These huge frescoes depict the realistic lives of the Mexican people in the field of industry, agriculture, and culture. They also reflect the often-forgotten native people.

Diego Rivera Mexican Hero
Diego Rivera’s talent for historical murals and his tributes to the people made him one of the most influential artists in the Americas and one of Mexico’s most beloved painters. While in Europe, he was influenced by the paintings of El Greco and Goya. He had close ties with Cézanne, Picasso, and with communistic Russians in exile. He was convinced that a new form of art should respond to “the new order of things … and that the logical place for this art … belonging to the populace, was on the walls of public buildings.” To simple peasants and workers, he was viewed as a prophet. He painted numerous government buildings in Mexico, as well as many buildings in the United States. Diego Rivera remained a central force in the development of a national art in Mexico throughout his life, until his death at the age of seventy.

Benefits of an Internet Card Room

Monday, March 31st, 2008

There are a number of different places where a person can play poker. Atlantic City and Las Vegas are two cities within the United States which offer an expansive setting of casinos. These casinos offer a variety of different games and entertainment activities, one of which is poker. However, since many people are unable to travel to these cities as often as they would like to, an internet card room can be just as effective when it comes to the benefits of poker.

Lots of people play poker for the money. The cost of traveling can eat into a person’s winnings, which is why many people prefer the internet card room setting. These card rooms are open twenty four hours a day, and a person can play whenever they want. Accessing an internet card room when it is most convenient for the individual is a very important benefit to a number of different players. Playing poker can now be performed on a spur of the moment basis, and friends do not need to be round up in order to get the game going.

The internet card rooms may not require a deposit by players. While there are a number of poker sites that are free to sign up for and free in which to enter the internet card room, they may require the player to play using real money. There are still some situations, though, in which a person is not charged for anything. On these entirely free sites, players do not need to invest with real money in the game because they are not playing for real money. Internet card room benefits enable a person to limit or eliminate the amount of money that they need to invest and makes access to doylesroom.com/ poker a lot more convenient.

Some Of The Most Popular Card Games For Kids

Monday, March 31st, 2008

It may surprise you to hear that kids can be entertained by products other than high-tech, high-dollar video game systems, DVDs, and television. They don’t have to spend their game-playing time blasting aliens, swinging digital golf clubs, and blowing up buildings. Amazing as it may sound, kids really do enjoy traditional games like board games and card games. Card games are a great way for you to spend more time with your children and get them away from the television. In addition to being fun, card games can be educational.

One such fun, educational card game for children is CardWord. The CardWord deck consists of cards with letters on them instead of numbers. The object of the game is to spell words. It’s challenging and educational.

Another fun, thought-provoking card game for kids which you’ve probably played yourself is Concentration. This can be played with a conventional deck or you can purchase specially made decks which feature fun pictures, words, numbers, etc. The cards are laid out face-down and the object is to find the matching cards. This game, of course, develops concentration, and almost every kid loves it.

Some other old favorites are Old Maid or Go Fish. Probably the most loved of all card games for kids is War. Kids of all ages can learn the simple rules to this game which can keep them occupied for as long as any video game.

One of the more acclaimed card games for kids is Apples to Apples Jr. This game consists of cards that on one side have red or green apples on them, and on the other side they have a word with its definition. The object of the game is to match the word on one card that best fits with the word on another. For example, if the word “beach″ is laid down, then the winning card will likely be “sun” or “ocean”. The winner is determined by a player acting as judge. This allows for a lot of leeway.

Uno is a game almost everybody has played. Uno is great because it can be tailored to suit children of all ages. If your child is very young and not able to comprehend complex rules, you can ignore the cards which involve skipping turns, drawing extra cards, and you can ignore the wild cards. With older children, you can utilize the entire deck and you’re likely to find yourself in quite the Uno battle with your progeny. Be assured that even if you’re playing your best, you’ll lose to your kids sometimes, and they’ll love it!

Card games provide a wealth of educational and entertainment possibilities for children. Even at their most formative stages, children can learn about words and numbers from card games. Card games will improve their concentration and enhance their logical reasoning abilities.

Ghosts Around

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Are these ghosts a reality….?
YES….I have seen it once, I have really experienced in my home, in my office…
People have different personal instances to share once you start talking about Ghosts.
Ghost stories are a spicy subject in campus life also. Due to fear or of a neutral personality, majority tends to believe in ghosts; and of course, there are few who do not believe in these stories at all…..If u utter any such ghostly experience, they would daringly challenge such things.

I remember such a story happened to a medical student, who publicly questioned the existence of ghosts and challenged to undergo any such ghostly experience. It was during a general discussion on ghosts, that he strongly disapproved the existence of ghosts and narrated those things as fake and absurd. Sooner, it became strong topic of debate and he entered into a bet with his friends to disapprove their views.

The guy agreed to undergo any fear filled, ghostly experience. And the bet offered him prize money once he is through with the challenge. The guy seemed to be so tough and was ready to take up any daring action.

The bet was like this,
There was a peepal tree near the boy’s hostel. And it was a hot topic of discussion during the past years of that hostel. The tree was famous either with suicides or with vampires and related stuffs. It says ghosts usually find their aboard on it. (Not scientifically proved, but great story tellers say so). And here, the guy was asked to pierce a nail on the peepal tree. The time of his daring action was set to be 12: 45 mid night.

It’s almost 70 meters distance from the hostel to the peepal tree. As decided earlier, the guy took his determined steps towards the tree with a hammer and nail. It was getting darker when he moved near to the tree. He looked around, the hostel seemed to be a dark chamber from distance, and the screaming of bugs added a horror ambience too.
By then, slowly he could feel the coldness passing through his feet. He ensured twice that he was holding the hammer tightly though his palm was getting sweaty. He thought to hit few strokes and finish the job so fast.

Now, the coldness has passed on to his body and to his finger tips as well. It’s totally dark around…The whistling wind moves with a panicking ambience. He felt like its long way to reach near the tree.

With trembling strides, somehow he managed to reach over there…
The moment he reached at one arm distance to the tree, he raised the hammer…fixed the nail…. The wind was blowing bit heavy, and he felt as if the wind will pull him up. He hit the nail with maximum power. When it pierced an inch on the tree he quickly turned back and tried to run away……ALAS…..he couldn’t……. some thing is horrifying…
Somebody pulled him from back….his neck was getting tight…He felt like somebody is trying to strangle him. …ohhhhhh… he screamed aloud. But no sound came out and nobody came to help. Few minutes passed…..

His friends thought that they have lost the bet money. And they waited in anticipation of his successful return. They waited and waited for long. But they couldn’t find his return. So they decided to go on search of him. Once they reached near the tree, they found him laying down the peepal tree. Totally lost with senses and movements…They all screamed. Meanwhile somebody brought water and sprinkled on his face…..But no response….Its really ghostly…

Wahhh…. Its…Unbelievable right… but what happened in reality? Due to extreme fear and horror filled ambience, he pierced the nail on the tree along with a corner of his shawl. So once he turned back the shawl on the neck got tight and it pulled him back slightly. Once the inner fear increases, obviously we will experience high stress, right? So here also the slight pull from the hooked shawl felt to him like somebody was pulling from back, thus he lost his mental control and fell faint…

This is just a story to an extend …But are these things a reality.
There are lots of beliefs in each and every culture. They have something to talk about ghosts. Both oriental and occidental traditions have its on style of narration about horror creatures. Film industry has grown big with ghostly content. And what more to say, even there are specialists who demands controls on all these extra sensitive affaires…and takes a big fee to cure your mind. What do you say? Do you believe? Or daring to take a challenge?

The Religion of Terrorism

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

The real causative agents of the terror in our society are the same people who live among us, born in our or neighbor’s families, would have been childhood friends, raised amongst us, do anyone wonders what would have compelled them to take such a path of destruction, pain and terror? May be some inherited this trait from their families; some are derived from external factors like financial gains or just to the point of being famous. Other factors being poverty, ignorance, corruption, political oppression and ‘power’ seems to be the dominant reasons of all. But how do they do it? So easily… how are they able to easily adulterate the minds? By using the pretext of most of the strongest beliefs of human kind – “Religion”

Religion prevails as long as the universe and as everyone who is willingly or unwillingly associated to it. The people who can be really affected by this pretext are extremists by nature, if not, they are molded to become one, in religious context. These days we fear to tread on the road, in the air, in the water, nothing is less than dangerous; every element is breached by terrorism. The most of who participate in this religious vandalism are unfortunately Islamic. The world’s most wanted terrorist is a Muslim and he tries to propel the factor – ‘Save Islam by following the road of martyrdom’; which is actually a road of massacre, which never leads to heaven but always ends up to hell. No religion preaches to kill the fellow human. They do it all in the name of God. Nothing can be more disgraceful to preach terrorism in the name of God. They’re not glorifying their religion but only demeaning it in every possible way.

Some nations harbor and support terrorism and act as a backbone of the terrorism. Do the leaders of these nations ever give a genuine thought to the aftermaths? They’re too busy puffing up their Swiss accounts. Do they ever bother to think what are repercussions of such heinous crimes? No, not only they’re earning a tarnished image in the world but also they denigrate the image of their citizens. Those Islamic terrorist claiming to be the ardent follower of Islam, do they ever realize what are they earning for their own Islamic citizens? Nobody these days is ready to mingle with a Muslim person, nobody wishes to employ them or rent them a house, the future will bring more difficulties to survive, making it impossible for them to earn a living, particularly in non-Islamic countries. Everybody will doubt the integrity of a Muslim by the mere fact that the person is an Islamic follower. Is it what they wish for? This is what they want out of their so-called ‘Movements’! They claim to be Anti-Christian, they want to kill all Hindus of the world but do they ever bother about the fate of the Muslims? Who in the world will trust a Muslim or befriend them or even talk to them in the near future. This is the fate they have chosen for their fellow Muslims, the path of dejection and hatred. Do they deserve it all? Why are they becoming mere puppets in the hands of those ravagers? They jeopardize the whole Muslim community and the leader faintly realizes it or more to say ignores it.

People who disperse fear, pain, bitterness, grief, agonize and torment the lives of many; cannot be the follower of any religion. Their claim is a mere hoax to deceive weak-minded and realize their own egocentric objective of ‘Ruling the World’. They least bother about the devastating effects of terrorism, tangible or intangible, on Muslims or anybody, they’re busy fulfilling their own unscrupulous motives.

Don’t the Muslims suffer in bombings and wars? Do bombs spare Muslims? No, none of the fact in the world defies that religion can be the basis of terrorism. Terrorism in no way advocates religion it only implies agony, grief, malaise, hatred and death.

No matter how much the death rate has dropped since past centuries, certainly this is not the way we ever choose to die. It’s always better to die from terminal disease, than to be a victim of terrorism.

It remains a choice of those minds that still succumb to such follies under the veil of religion. Its up to those who can easily endanger or rather save the human existence, so that every day brightens with light of peace and love; so that every flower that blooms is not under the shadow of thorns but blooms above thorns; so that dark clouds only bring rains and not the dusty fumes of suffering.

Bridezilla Needs a Breakthrough

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Bridezilla, I’m proud of you
You’re getting married to
A wonderful, gentleman
Now you’re in preparation
To betroth a husband
However beforehand
You’ve got to stand
Get yourself together
Endure the weather
And emotional storms
Which have worn
Made you forlorn
Led you to scorn
Wearied and torn
Terrorized and born
In you a nervousness
Unmanageable restlessness
Now girl get a grip!
Harness and stop with it
Everybody is tired of it
You say, “Huh, what?”
A perpetual pain in the butt
Overwhelmed in a rut
Acting like a deranged nut
A lunatic at a mental asylum
In sinking sand drowning
Continually fretting and crying
Flailing in the ferocious sea
Of premarital planning
Complaining and damning
Anything and anyone
That stands in your way
Girl, we’re not the enemy
We are your beloved friends
Enduring you to our wits end
But you are unruly and tend
To criticize and not appreciate
How much must we demonstrate
Our unconditional support
And undying love toward you
What more can we do?
Now it is time for you
To get on your feet
Harness your soul
Get settled, be complete
Stop trying to compete
Outdo and proudly beat
All the rest of the peacocks
Shaking their proud buttocks
Primping like vain goldilocks
Incessantly combing their hair
Demoralized by every care
Not treating people fair
Bulldozing and belittling
Those who fluster and scare
Counsel, confront, and dare
To put your head in check
Your self-absorbed ways
Make many want to defect
Do away with your drama
The damsel in distress
Has disgusted many
Irritated us continually
Disrespected us excessively
Now we say to thee
Oh precious princess
Give us a break
Lest we breakout
Leave you to thyself
All alone with nobody else
Bridezilla needs a breakthrough
Graciously move on through
What you’re going through
Change your perception
Alter your perspective
Transform your person
Revolutionize your planet
Stop poisoning and polluting
Disregarding and purporting
Ignorantly and irreverently resorting
To miniscule manipulating measures
To cleverly get your own way
Speak down degradingly
Devaluing day by day
Young lady, life is not
All about me, myself, and I
Before you have a meltdown
Why not pray and at least try
To uphold and rightfully honor
Your bridesmaids and mother
Who bend over backwards
To befriend, help, and assist you
Because with your vile attitude
We are undoubtedly nearly through
Bridezilla, get a personal breakthrough
Before we say no more and leave you.

Electronic Drums - Past And Present

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

How they work -When an electronic drum pad is struck, a change is triggered in the embedded transducer (piezo). The resulting signals are transmitted to o the drum module and are translated into digital waveforms, which produce the desired percussion sound assigned to a particular pad. As a drummer that’s all you need to know really. However over the past few years technology has turned electronic drums into serious instruments that impress even the most discerning of drummers.

The Early Days - Early electronic drums gave only an approximation of the sound of acoustic drums, as there were often technical issues with triggering, as well as musical issues such as poor dynamics and tonal subtlety. Consequently, the early electronic drumsets such as Simmons and Syn drums, were often used for effects largely in disco genres in which the drums were usually expected to play rigid patterns and were little more than early drum machines. Simmons however, addressed these problems and produced usable kits that became popular with many of the days top drummers and still has a sizeable fan base today.

Todays State of the Art - There are inexpensive low-end drums and modules currently in production whose quality is just marginally better than their pioneering counterparts. For the most part, these are targeted towards children and hobbyists

Most of todays kits have modules with trigger inputs for the following:

Kick DrumSnare drum rimHi hat controllerTomsCymbals(bow bell ) 0r (bow bell edge)Hi-hat cymbalThe ability to assign different sounds to any given pad makes for enormous flexibility giving the electronic drummer unlimited potential for configuring different kits. Today most acoustic kits can be replicated and are practically indistinguishable from the “real mcCoy″ Additionally, electronic drummers can sample other drums or non-percussive sounds and use them creatively, no more is the drummer to be regarded as just the tubthumper at the back. Many see this as a great advantage over acoustic drums, as one can have a jazz, funk, rock, reggae, orchestral drumset by merely changing the kit selector switch on the module. Kits by Roland, Ddrum and Yamaha have addressed many of the downfalls of early electronic drums. While each of these manufacturers have entry-level units, the professional kits are geared toward creating a sound and playing experience which is nearly indistinguishable from a quality acoustic kit. Mesh heads are replacing the irritating rubber pads on most top kits and metal cymbals are also available from companies like Smartrigger. Examples include the Yamaha DTXtreme IIS, the DDrum4SE and Roland’s TD-12 and TD-20 Vdrums. Typically, these high-end kits are equipped with:high quality digital samples offering 24 bit samples of actual percussion sounds with hundreds of samples from which to choose.

Positional sensing and dynamic impact detection - detects which area of the drum head is hit providing a sample representing the strike on an acoustic head. Additionally, the volume and tone of the strike is dependent on where and how hard you hit it.

Multiple triggers- Snares and Toms have impact zones for both the head and the rim, allowing for rim and cross stick Cymbals also have multiple zones for edge, bow and bell strikes.

Realistic Hi-Hats- The latest hi-hat controllers produce open and closed sounds with some models offering variations in-between giving the drummer very realistic playing options. An electronic module within the foot controller detects the movement and provides variations of open, partially open, and closed samples as played with different sounds also assigned to a foot close, and a quick close-open.

Multiple audio outputs- For each percussion group (ie. Toms, Cymbals, etc) allowing independent mixing (like the multiple miking of an acoustic kit). Additionally, these groups have independent faders.

Expansion slots/Midi- for upgrading samples and software. Midi for linking up to your computer sequencer or to drive one of the brilliant drum software packages such as BFD or Toontracks

All this comes at a price. To get the same tonal quality as a good acoustic kit you are likely to pay double the acoustic kits cost but hey look at the fun and possibilities you can have not to mention the fact that you aint gonna fall out with your neighbours either.

Allan is a drummer and author of more than 30 years experience and runs the website below dedicated to electronic drums.

5 Real Reasons for Learning Spanish

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

I′m sure you’ve seen articles before stating some really great reasons to learn Spanish. But I think a lot of them are wrong. Heres my take on why you should learn Spanish.

1. It’s easy. So you want to learn a language, but you don’t want it to be too hard? Then Spanish is for you. It shares a lot of the same vocabulary, which means you don’t have to spend hours drilling words into your head. It is a mostly phonetic alphabet too. For English speakers, the pronunciation isn’t a worry, so theres another worry gone. And for the Einsteins out there, since Spanish is a romance language, it means that you don’t have to learn a new alphabet! How great is that?

2. Business. As Spanish establishes itself as one of the most popular languages in North America, the employment and business opportunities also increase. Having a second language looks more and more impressive on a resume and being able to sell to Spanish speaking people means that your market has just increased.

3. Become sexier. Thats right, a recent online poll stated that Spanish is one of the most attractive accents, for both men and women. So if you′re struggling to find a date, then perhaps you should forget about those bicep curls and or breast implants, Spanish is your key!

4. Get to know that “quiet″ guy down the street. Got some new neighbours who seem awfully quiet? Well, it’s not that they′re quiet, they just don’t speak English dummy! With the Spanish speaking population of the United States at over 30 million, having some “quiet guys” move in down the road is a definite possibility. So take the initiative and learn Spanish, that guy down the street will thank you for it.

5. Have more fun travelling. Sure, speaking Spanish in Spanish speaking countries isn’t a must. You can get around speaking English. But trust me when I say you will have so much more fun if you can speak even a little Spanish. Just the fact that you’re trying will put you head and shoulders above the average westerner. Get ready for free drinks, better advice and invitations to places not normally frequented by tourists. It really can make or break your trip.

I hope after reading this article that you’re all pumped about learning Spanish. It really is a fantastic journey and one that you’ll be grateful for.

Anthony Dwyer believes that everyone, regardless of financial status, deserves to be able to learn Spanish. Which is why he created JiffySpanish.com, a free site that allows you to jiffyspanish.com Learn Spanish Online

Humanist Terrorists Nabbed In Miami; Planned To Plant Explosive Books

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

A group that calls itself humanist terrorists was apprehended by the FBI in a preemptive strike in Miami. The terrorist cell, which claims affiliation with the Middle Atlantic terror group all-Libraries, was infiltrated by an FBI operative.

The leader of the group confided to the informant that the members planned to plant explosive books in various locations throughout the United States, including the Sears Tower, a number of FBI buildings, and radical Muslim mosques.

The humanist terrorist group had been operating out of the basement of an as yet undisclosed free public library in Miami. The FBI found plentiful evidence of the group’s plans, including many intelligent books generally considered to be easily accessible and therefore highly dangerous.

At a news conference held to announce the arrests, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales stated, “Fortunately, the plot by this home-grown terrorist cell was disrupted in the planning stages. The group was still trying to get funding to acquire a sufficient number of books.”

In a deposition, a spokesman for the humanist terrorists confessed, “We were planning to spread enlightenment wherever we could, so we selected two of the most informative and readable philosophy books of recent times, both by the leading but now deceased humanist terrorist Bertrand Russell. First, we were going to stage an attack with his landmark The History of Western Philosophy, just to provide people with an overview of our radical ideology. Then we hoped to follow that up with a strike using The Selected Writings Of Bertrand Russell. Our goal was, I confess, to disrupt the new Dark Age that appears to be descending on a worldwide basis.”

The prosecuting attorney outlined the government’s case, saying, “The confession of this self-styled humanist terrorist clearly indicates there was a clear intention to disrupt the deadly ignorance that pervades much of today’s society. Obviously, the group poses a threat to the widespread determination of much of the world’s population to return to a time so wonderfully ill-informed that it can truly be described as The Dark Ages come back.”

The families of the terrorists were startled by the arrests and continued to maintain that the suspects are innocent.

As one mother said, “My son is not a terrorist. He’s a good boy who somehow came to believe in radical ideas like truth and wisdom. If he’s freed on bail, I promise to limit his reading time.”
