Karaoke CDs

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

If you really enjoy singing, karaoke may sound like a heaven on earth to you. It is a very good way to entertain guests at a house warming party or otherwise. If you own a bar or a restaurant, adding a karaoke machine could do wonders for your business as it is bound to attract more customers. Now this is where the role of a good collection of karaoke CDs comes in.

Karaoke CDs are found extensively in stores and online shopping arcades. Some have the capacity to store as much as hundred songs, offering a wide variety of genre from pop to old rock. One must know what would be the easiest for him or her to sing and add the favorite songs to one’s play list. Many websites offer hundreds of options of different songs and assortments. One has an ample number of choices when choosing Karaoke CDs. Buying CDs need not be expensive but it also depends on the number of songs a single compact disc can store. Sometimes, you can find great deals on Karaoke sales when stores or Web sites have sales.

Early on, cassettes were used in Karaoke machines, but with advancements in technology, they have been replaced by CDs. Karaoke uses CDs which are a little different than regular music CDs, as they combine standard graphics capability known as CD G. This means it uses a special track called sub-code to encode the lyrics and pictures displayed on screen. CD G can hold up to hundreds of Karaoke songs. Most websites that sell Karaoke CDs offer these types of CDs. Always check if your player supports these types of CDs, as some of them may require different specifications.

The History and Workings of the Blackjack Hall of Fame

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Honoring the select few individuals who have set themselves apart from the masses to become the exceptional figures in the world of Blackjack began in the winter of 2002, when a varied group of professional gamblers from around the globe nominated a group of 21 distinct persons. Each of these 21 was, at one point, at the top of the game as a professional player, expert, or author in the game of blackjack. Thus, the Blackjack Hall of Fame had begun, as both an honorarium and educational tool for the general public to learn about the creativity, drive, courage and intelligence of its players, not to mention their achievements at the tables.

Voting for the initial 7 inductees to the Blackjack Hall of Fame was open to the public for one month over the internet. However, the primary voting was conducted by professional blackjack players at the 2003 Blackjack Ball, an event for only the most prestigious players, for these are the individuals who know the most about their peers and their total accomplishments, both at and away from the tables. Plus, professional blackjack players are the ones who depend greatly on the publications of authors, so they are more than familiar with which theories are truly original as well as which have had the greatest impact on winning at the tables.

Oddly enough, the general public’s internet voting and the professional blackjack players’ votes were amazingly similar.

Since the time of inception, the Blackjack Hall of Fame continues with the same basic principals, as all current members are fully responsible for the nominating process as well as the voting. There are no limitations as to the number of possible nominees annually, but a biography of each player, coupled with a reason for nomination, must be presented to each Hall of Fame inductee prior to voting. All members then vote on their top choices, with each member’s vote counting equally. In order to maintain the integrity of the voting process, each member’s votes are willingly shown to all other members.

The Barona Casino in Lakeside, California is the physical home and sponsor of the Blackjack Hall of Fame. Here, each inductee is represented with a plaque, complete with a photo and a few kind words about their contributions to the game and their individual accomplishments. In addition, a museum of gadgets and gizmos used for cheating in blackjack, such as card-swapping devices, marked cards, computer shoes and other interesting contraptions, are on display for the public to view.

On an interesting side note regarding the Barona Casino, each of the Blackjack Hall of Fames inductees have been granted a full-comp room, food and beverages for life at the casino, as long as they promise not to play at Barona’s tables.

I Am The Watcher And I Have Returned

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Of Society:

I BELONG TO THE HUMAN RACE
I AM NOT BLACK, WHITE, BROWN, RED OR YELLOW
I AM HUMAN AND THAT’S ALL I NEED TO BE
AS LONG AS I AM AWARE
THAT THERE ARE THOSE WHO ARE DIFFERENT THAN ME
AND THEY DESERVE RESPECT
NO MATTER WHAT

I wonder if our awareness of Cultural differences has reached the level of unjustified accommodation for people whom, as a matter of historic record have been deprived socially being given various allowances which promote systemic dependence instead of self reliance. By now, it should be painfully obvious that you cannot help someone by doing for them that which they could do for themselves.

The nature of the person on the outside
is usually under the influenced of what’s on the inside.

For one person to say to another I love you
That person must first be able to love.
To find a worthwhile person,
We must first view ourselves as worthwhile.

Human potential to rise above circumstances
is limited only by one’s perception

The worth of the Human soul is measured only by
the extent of the horizon from view to view.
Never can you see all its aspects at once

As we move through life
we leave a path of things done and undone
The value of our accomplishments is always judged by another after we have passed

For want of concern
on the part of an individual
that could have helped, a child was lost, whenever this happens we collectively suffer the loss

The way we treat our fellow Human Beings
often reflects our feelings about ourselves

How is it that a person can become so involved in a title
that all that person can be is that title
I always thought the person defined the job
not the job defined the person

The time to set priorities
is never in the time of crisis
For when we do
we have a tendency to screw things up
rather fanciful
and in very short order

The most important fact of life
appears to be
What can I do for Me
as opposed to
What can I do for You

To serve mankind unselfishly
with no expectation of return is
far and away
the most rewarding endeavor in which mankind could participate

MASKS

Masks that we play with
what we use to hide
Have an inherent danger
built deep inside
The more we use them
the less we see
then we ask ourselves
how can this be
The more we hide
the less we become
when we deny our identity
we shy from the sun
To undo what we have wrought
requires us to step into the sun
the truth must be told
the fight must be fought
Masks that we play with.

Final Table Tournament Play and Your Poker Calculator

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

So many dynamics of the game come together at the final table. A mixture of stack sizes, experience, excitement, anxiety, and the thought of having that message pop up on your computer saying, Congratulations, You Placed First in the Tournament and $2,375.00 has been deposited into your account! Nice!

You may have been using your poker calculator during the tournament to help get you to the final table, but now with this new mixture of dynamics present, it may not be as useful to you in moving up pay-out positions. I never play an online tournament without using my Holdem Pirate Poker Calculator. I use the VPIP meter to keep close tabs on the type of player I am paying against, as it truly helps in identifying what they may be raising with. All of this changes at the final table, particularly as a result of short stacks combined with huge blinds and position.

First of all if you are a big stack you are going to be playing a lot more hands than your poker calculator is recommending. This is especially true of you are up against a short stack who is all in and you are last to act. Your poker calculator will say to fold hands like QTs, or AJos, but if your stack is 4 or 5 times bigger than his, this is an automatic call. I would even play more speculative hands in that spot like T9s, and pocket pairs right down to deuces.

Conversely if you are a short stack your play is wide open as you have nothing to lose but move up. In position if your stack can cause some damage to some medium stacks to your left in the blinds you are actually situated better than it may seem. Post flop aggression with first in pressure is your move here with hands that could range from Ace-anything, any pair, suited connectors and any two paint cards. Most of these combinations are instant fold warnings from your poker calculator. So you really should only use it as an indicator of hand strength. When I am short stack I am looking for anything over 75% in position. Thats one of the reasons I really like using VPIP meter because it will give you a percentage strength on your hand, but more importantly a indication of the aggression at your table. From that information, you may, even being a short stack may want to survive just past the next round of blinds if you figure you can move up a pay scale or two just by sitting and folding. I have done exactly this too, earning an extra thousand dollars in the process. In that game I was happy to blind out!

So when you get to the final table, a quick glance at the VPIP meter is about all youll need to determine your strategy, and do you best to move up the money.

The Beginner Poker Players Guide to Bluffing in Low-Limit Texas Hold ‘em

Monday, July 30th, 2007

It can be hard to tell when someone at your table is bluffing - but the hardest part can be pulling it off against the other players that don’t have much at stake to start with in a low limit game. This is what makes it so much harder to win a low limit tournament - or even place in the top 10 - but it can be a very fun and challenging experience that allows you to build your poker skills before playing for higher limits. It will take some time, but with practice you’ll be able to steal those big pots when it matters most!

Let’s start by giving you an example of when NOT to bluff. You’re in middle position and have called one raise to see the flop with K 10 suited - there are still 6 other players in the pot and the flop comes A A K… no matter what the players in front of you do - now is definitely not the time to try and bluff - even if you do have the big stack on the table. Chances are someone has another Ace if there are still 6 players in the pot. Just make a small bet here and see what happens. Even another King on the turn - you’re probably just drawing dead.

Now - let’s say you’re holding A 10 with 3 other people in the pot. Everyone has called only the blinds and the flop comes Q 3 6. Player 1 checks, player 2 bets, you decide to raise and have 2 players call. The next card is a K and the first player bets… is now a good time to try and bluff the pot? Well, not really - anyone with Q’s probably calls any size bet, and who knows what else someone has. So much as a pair of 3’s and you’re beat!

Now, a better time to attempt a bluff is after you’ve been at the same table for a while and have hada chance to establish yourself as a better than average player with the other players at the table. It’s also nice to have a fairly large chip stack compared to the other players in case you do get called. Now, in a later position with everyone checking the flop which came 3 6 4, you make a bet of 6 times the large blind. Now the other players must stop to think - did you catch 2 pair? 3 of a kind? a straight? or are you going on a bluff?

With enough practice, you should be able to win 80 - 90% of the hands in this situation! Be careful however if you are called here - and don’t get too nuts - if someone re-raises you here you should fold the hand - every time. There’s nothing worse than being caught bluffing - other than calling a re-raise and getting beat out of twice as many chips on a complete bluff!

Elmo History and Facts

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Elmo has been a fun character on Sesame Street for many years with his friends, the cookie monster, Big Bird, the Grouch, and even Bert and Ernie. A red furry Muppet he is probably about the age of a child in preschool. Elmo’s got googly eyes and a vibrant orange nose. Elmo has grown in popularity since he was first introduced on Sesame Street and now hosts the last segment on the children’s show called Elmo’s World. You may remember the famous Tickle Me Elmo doll that came out a few years ago. It was the hottest toy of the Christmas season at the time and flew on the shelves in stores because so many parents bought it for their kids.

The Elmo’s World segment is created for toddlers and features Elmo in his room which is a white space filled with crayon drawings on his furniture. Elmo’s world also contains his pet Goldfish, which is a real goldfish, and silent characters including Mr. Noodle, and Mr. Noodle’s Brother Mr. Noodle. In Elmo’s world, Elmo feels very safe and is able to express himself creatively with his crayons. Parents will often notice that Elmo will refer to himself in the third person. His simple sentences are helpful to children in learning basic grammar and language. Elmo’s parents are named Gladys and George but they are rarely if ever seen on the show. He also has grandparents and he has a sister.

Other Elmo dolls have been released including, Hokey Pokey Elmo, Limbo Elmo and Let’s Pretend Elmo, the newest Elmo toy to be released will be the Extreme Elmo, expected to be a big hit this winter.

Elmo has been on many television specials besides spending time on Sesame Street he has been on Martha Stewart, starred with Emril in a cooking show, and actually testified before congress to urge support of music education and other shows.

Man in Search of The Creator - Characters in Search of An Author

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Six Characters (Father, Mother and four children) appear before a troupe of professional Actors, state they are the incomplete creations of their author’s brain and passionately desire to get their life-story realized in a dramatic form. The Characters are allowed to reenact their tragic lives.

In the First scene, the father sends his wife away after he has had a son by her. He encourages her affair with his Secretary by whom thereafter she has three children – two Girls and a Boy. After the death of the Secretary the family disappears.

The Second scene shows the lonesome Father in a dress shop-cum-bawdy house, seeking the services of his beautiful eighteen-year-old Stepdaughter whom he does not recognize. The actions are so shameful that the Characters forget that they are only reenacting. They also rebel at the Actors’ subsequent ineffective attempts to reenact the lives of the Characters.

In the Final scene the Characters attempt to carry out their story into the future to a logical conclusion. The Father now feels dull and listless. His twenty-two-year old Son is sullen and scornful and makes his Mother miserable. The Step-daughter is, despite her shame, arrogant and offensive. At the end the little Girl is drowned in the pool and the Boy shoots himself. Life enclosed in the mould of Art breaks out of its narrow walls into the matter-of-fact world of tragic death.

The Characters, who are but the illusion of Life, represent Life or Reality at the highest pitch of intensity and depth. The author who was their creator will die but the created Characters will never die. When a Character is born, he or she at once acquires an existence independent of the author, and becomes an autonomous entity. Artistic creation is by definition a denial of death.

I have loved this story because of the parallels it has with Life. Agreed that Reality does sometimes converge, overlap and coalesce, and the puzzle of life and death remain unsolved, but do we not, as incomplete artistic Creation of the Immortal Author God, search out our stage - the world, enact a life of intense passion and sin, and then when death comes as a logical conclusion wonder, whether it is a reality or an illusion of reality?

Life, as different from fiction, only in its being ‘Reenacted’ as decreed by God, would be Immortal. Life will then, no more be a puzzle. Death will die!

Will be thankful to my readers if they choose to leave a comment in “rating” this piece

The Gambler and the Hex

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

I come from a land of violence. I do not share my real name with you for fear of revenge against my family. My story is very humble but sincere. It is not for the faint of heart.

In my land money is freedom. If you have money then you can prosper. If you have no money then you are a slave.

My story centers around a card game. A game that most know as Blackjack. In my land it is known as Jackblack.

Myself and my friends (or should I call them my enemies?) were playing Jackblack one Christmas Eve. Most of my money was in the pot. The dealer (who I shall only refer to as Three Fingers for fear of revenge) was smiling a twisted little grin at me. He knew I had to win or there would be no Christmas cheer in my household. I was staying put with a 17. I had the king of clubs showing and the seven of hearts in the hole. Three Fingers had an eight of spades showing.

Did he already have me beat? Would he take another card? Was I feeling lucky? You will have to read below to find out.

Three Fingers was so close to me that I could smell the garlic on his breath. He looked at me with weasel eyes and coughed the cough of a man with no heart. At that moment I hated him.

Three Fingers decided to draw another card. He drew the ten of diamonds. Which busted him! I gathered my winnings and was about to leave the game when the violence broke out. Three Fingers stood up, looked at me with his weasel eyes and cold heart and shouted at me “Not so fast, Giancarlo Casio!”

He then pointed his index finger and his baby finger at me (luckily for him these were 2 of the 3 remaining digits he still had on his hand) and said “Giancarlo Casio, I hex you and I hex your first born male child.”

My heart jumped a beat and I was petrified. For Three Fingers was known as the greatest hexer of my village. I could do nothing but leave my village, leave my country, change my name and go to a new land.

I got a job in a casino where I watched the great gamblers of our generation. I watched them closely and studied them. I befriended them and they taught me their gambling systems.

I became an expert at Texas Holdem, 7 card stud, NBA betting, the slots and bingo.

But to this very day I have not had a male child for fear of the greatest hexer my village has ever known.

How to Memorize a Song the Easy Way

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

Do you always need to have the sheet music to play a song? Do you wish you could sit down at the piano and just play like your favorite performers do? Well, you are not alone. Most pianists feel the same way as you do.

But don’t give up just yet:

There is an easy way for you to conquer this problem, and it’s guaranteed to work.

The 3 x 5 Method

Part 1: Creating Your Tool In 5 Simple Steps:
All you need is a 3 x 5 index card to get started.

Mark off 4 empty measures evenly spaced across your index card (from left to right)Place the chords for each measure between the bar lines.Continue doing this for the entire song: always staying with 4 measures per line.Use repeat signs as well as 1st and 2nd endings to save space as well as to simplify. If the song has a bridge (middle section), draw a horizontal line below the verses and then place the chords in the same way as you did for the other measures.
Note: Many songs have 3rd verses that are the same or nearly the same as the 2nd.
No need to write these chords on the card.

Part 2: Using Your Index Card as Your Ticket to Success

Put the index card on the piano and play the chords with your left hand in time (slowly) as you look at them on the card instead of on the sheet music.Next, focus exclusively on the first 4 measures. Look at the index card as you play the chords with your left hand and the melody with the right hand. You will surprise yourself at how easily you’ll be able to play the melody without music after a few minutes.Repeat step #2 without the index card this time. Even if you need to refer to the card a couple of times, you’ll be amazed at how quickly you’ll be able to memorize this section.Every time you practice, review the part of the song that you have already memorized. Once you can play this with confidence, follow the same process to memorize more of the song—always concentrate on 4 measure sections.Carry your index card with you in your pocket or purse at all times. Anytime that you have a free moment—standing in line at the grocery store, sitting traffic, waiting for your meal to be served—pull out the card and review the names of the chords in order.
Remember to focus on 4 measure sections before moving ahead.

Part 3: Free at Last

Once you have the first song memorized, play your newly memorized song on as many pianos and keyboards as possible. You may need to refer to the index card occasionally. That’s okay. You’ll still be building up your confidence.Start working on another song and follow this same method. This will actually help you play your first memorized song better, because you’re now developing this habit.Set a goal such as: “I play 5 songs beautifully and confidently from memory by…pick a date.” Review this goal 2 or 3 times every day.Use visualization to help you: picture yourself playing the piano effortlessly a concert stage, as the center of attention at a party or just sitting in your living room alone.
The instrument is clear of all traces of music, and you are smiling from ear to ear.Listen to recordings of your memorized song by great performers to inspire you.

Action Exercises

Here are three things you can do immediately to put these ideas into action.

First, spend part of your daily practice sessions working on your songs to be memorized.
Your investment of a few minutes every day will yield powerful results.

Second, copy the chords onto an index card for each song you want to memorize.
The act of writing alone helps to imprint the chords into your memory.

Third, review the chords on your 3 x 5 card every time you have a free moment.
Your time away from the piano will become a turbo charger for your time at the piano.
