Piano Lessons for Kids - Piano Tips for Young Students that Really Work

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Learning strategies are important for piano students. Having developed great learning strategies over years of teaching experience is what makes good teachers. Young piano students, however, need a bit of guidance to practice their music at home using effective strategies to develop good playing habits. Without this they may not acquire the basic knowledge and skills necessary to move forward. Plus, there is no point in having your child spend 30 minutes practicing incorrectly without learning their pieces when the material can be mastered in 10 minutes with good practice habits.

Imagine little Susie or Johnny at the piano delighted to be learning to play, but having so much trouble mastering their first lessons at home. They’re not getting the guidance they need because their parents who may not play the piano assume they can’t help and that the weekly piano lesson is all the guidance their young student needs. These assumptions are not true. It’s easy to help your young student at home even if you don’t play the piano. Here are 5 tips for parents to help their young children use effective learning strategies at home and develop good paying habits.

Remind your child practicing piano at home to:

1. Sing the note names as they are played. Pre-reading music has the names of the notes written on the note heads. Students need to say the names of then notes as they are played so they learn to visualize what keys are under their fingers in beginning hand positions C and Middle C. Without this simple knowledge, students will not b able to go on to learning to read notes on the staff.

2. Keep eyes on the music, not the hands. Once students have their hand position, they need to keep their eyes on the music and not look down at their hands. This way they are developing a keyboard in their imaginations. This is also necessary for reading notes on the staff, which is just a map of the piano keyboard.

3. Sit back on the piano bench and reach out to the piano. Students will not be able to use their small muscles in the fingers unless they are reaching out to the piano with their arms extended and elbows slightly bent with elbows pointing to the walls and not the floor.

4. Round the hands over the keyboard. The fingers need to stretch down to the piano keys from the top knuckle and then retract back to a rounded hand position. This allows for finger flexibility and control.

5. Play each song 5 to 7 times a day. It doesn’t take long for a young student to practice their beginning lessons. But each song needs to be played about 7 times using good playing strategies. For the average student whose teacher has assigned them two songs, this will take about 5 minutes a song. That’s a ten minute practice session. And that’s really all beginning students need to do to learn their lessons. But without these strategies they could sit at the piano for hours and never learn what they need to know.

Guide your young piano student at home with these 5 practice easy to use practice tips and no one will ever know that their parents don′t play the piano!

Smallville Promise Recap

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Smallville’s episode entitled “The Promise″ dismissed all the noise of whether a wedding will push through or not. Certainly one of Smallville’s most exciting episodes, “The Promise″ gave a lot of clarity and revelation.

Finally, wedding bells rang for Lana and Lex!

A dash of betrayal, a secret revealed, and a love confession all made up Smallville’s much-awaited episode. Structured in three angles, Clark’s, Lex’s and Lana’s, “The Promise” started off with all the wedding preparations and setups.

Clark’s plot was filled with puzzlement and odd dreams of him stabbing Lex to save Lana and Lana stabbing Clark in turn. In addition, there was much contemplation on his feelings for Lana, exploring the relationship of Jonathan and Martha. Later, he saves Chloe who is trapped in the wine cellar. Not knowing that Lana is hiding in the shadows, Clark uses his powers to free Chloe who argues with Clark over his feeling for Lana.

As for Lex, he also had his share of dreams about Lana and the baby. After some doubts and suspicions, he meets with Lionel who assures him that Lana will be there at the wedding. Later, Lex meets with Dr. Langston, who blackmails Lex with the information about Lana’s pregnancy. Consequently, Lex beats him to death and hides his body.

Lana also starts her plot with a dream about Clark rescuing her. Later, she meets up with Chloe and asks her to go down the wine cellar. Chloe gets trapped and secretly calls Clark for help. Afterwards, Lana discovers Clark’s secret.

Eventually, Clark tells Lana his secret and Lana tells him that she’s not going to marry Lex. She arranges to meet up with him later. Shortly, Lionel Luthor confronts Lana and threatens to destroy Clark if she does not go through with the wedding. Clark, who is about to propose to Lana, realizes that Lana is not coming. He arrives at the church and witnesses Lex and Lana ’s wedding.

March Madness Bettors Upset By Upsets

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

In a contest applauded for it’s ability to turn underdogs into champions the NCAA Basketball tournament has been a contest especially surprised by upsets this year. While the tournament was drolly predictable going into the sweet sixteen, that round saw all four top-seeded teams eliminated.

“At that point things pretty much went haywire.” Said Will Catlett, chief sports editor at SportsBettingScams.org, an online sports book watchdog site. “So what we’re really looking at is a lot of unhappy sports bettors.”

While a certain very small percentage of bettors made it through that round and came out with their teams — and wallets — still intact, the vast majority of bettors are coming out having to make additional deposits if they want to bet on more games. This is the time, according to Catlett, when it’s especially important that you’re betting with a reputable sports book.

“Any chucked-together operation can stay afloat as long as they’re taking your money.” He says. “But the test of a top sports book is their ability to pay when you win.”

For the handful of bettors who bet on the 500-1 Patriots, that payout could be incredibly handsome. Little-known underdog George Mason pulled off one of the most stunning upsets in NCAA tournament history by beating top-seeded UCONN to win the Washington Regional and advance to the Final Four.

But the contest is still far from over. If anything, these upsets have just made the betting on the remaining games all the more intense. Before you deposit, read reviews of reputable sports books tested by veteran sports bettors, go to ==> sportsintensity.com sportsintensity.com

Why Do Humans Have So Many Wars?

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Do you ever ask yourself why humans have so many wars? It seems all of the prerecorded history is filled with stories about war, but why? It seems to be added eight characteristic of mankind with societies get too large. Perhaps it has been a way to control runaway human populations in times of abundance? Or maybe it has something to do with our evolutionary process and if we did not have wars, human beings may never have reached the top of the food chain and basically controlling the surface of the Earth.

War is a fact of life and a sense, which gives the human endeavor purpose. I did not invent that, but I sure as heck will move to protect my nation from any threat foreign or domestic. Humans are the problem not the USA as many in the world mass media hysteria would like to purport.

Before modern wars and high-tech military equipment with aircraft carriers, satellites, submarines, radar, electronic equipment, aircraft, missiles, guns, there were knives, swords, catapults, ramming tools, warships, Greek fire and lances. The reason I mention this is because many would have you believe that the massive amounts of weapons sales in the world or the cause of war. Many believe that building up a military machine for a nation will inevitably lead to war. For instance Einstein’s quote; “you cannot simultaneously prevent and prepare for war.” So, as far as weapon sales alone, those who make that comment can forget such ridiculous notions. You see; guns don′t kill people, people kill people. Consider this in 2006.

Build US Fighter Planes in Mexico with Chinese Parts to Save Money

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

The United States Government is spending like it is going out of style and some are now saying that we must cut back. Still our economy has grown like never before and our National Debt is still only a couple of percent of the total.

Nevertheless some are saying that America is spending itself into bankruptcy and the politicians have a never-ending pet project, sneak it in at the last minute, spend thrift attitude. Well recently at a coffee shop a liberal thinker told me; Wouldn’t it be nice if had money for Health Care and the United States Air Force had to hold a bake sale to by another bomber plane?

Yah well, I heard that joke before and was not phased, amazed or moved by his comments and then he said; We Should Build US Fighter Planes in Mexico with Chinese Parts to Save Money. I asked him what line of work he was in and he told be he use to build aircraft for Boeing in Everett, Washington and worked Union for 20 years.

Well that did not surprise me at all seeing as his jaded comments failed to take into consideration that our Government’s number one job is to protect the American People. And building fighter planes in Mexico, please, spare me the cynicism for a change, sheesh! Please consider all this in 2006.

Choosing Your Making Soap Kit

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

With so many making soap kits out there, sometimes it can be hard to choose between them. What’s an amateur soap maker to do? This article has some tips for choosing the perfect soap making kit either for yourself or as a gift for a friend or relative.

First, know your expertise level. Have you made soap before? If so, then a beginner’s soapmaking kit is probably going to be too simplistic for you. You will want more of a challenge, a chance to expand your soap making horizons. Branch out and try something a little more difficult this time around.

Second, know what you want to do. If your aim is just to make soap, or if your aim is to try something you haven’t tried before, then it doesn’t matter as much which kit you choose. But, for example, it doesn’t make any sense to get a kit to make bar soap if you want to try making liquid soap. Nor does it make sense to buy a kit for making base soap if you want to try your hand at making glycerin soap.

Price factors in, of course. Which kit is the best value for the money? Which tools and supplies does each kit offer? Which additional tools and supplies will you need to buy? Always make sure you know what you’ll need and what the kit will provide before ordering it.

Is the kit’s information detailed and easy to understand? It should list all the supplies it includes, which tools, if any, it includes, and what additional resources you’ll need–and you should be able to see this before you purchase the kit!

Take the time to do your research; you won’t regret it. Making soap kits are fun, useful, and make great gifts–but only if you know what you want, what you need, and what you’re getting!

How to Improvise Freely On Piano!

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Ah, to sit down and play. One of the joys of being able to play the piano is to know how to play it. But so few can or do. What I mean is this - if you can’t walk over to your piano, sit down and just play whatever you feel, you are shortchanging yourself on a wonderful experience. Plus, it’s not as difficult to do as many might have you think.

The thing that stops more students from being able to improvise freely is self-doubt. They just don’t believe they can do it. And of course, they lock themselves with this belief. I can relate. I had to work long and hard to give up my own set of self-limiting beliefs about what I could or couldn’t do on the piano. One of the biggest of these was “I’m not good enough.”

This thought in particular will freeze you and keep you stuck. Look at it this way. No one is good enough! That’s right! No one will ever be the best at playing piano because there will always be someone better - technically speaking that is. That’s why it’s very important to free yourself from such inane beliefs. Listen, you are good enough and you are ready to express yourself at the piano. Here’s one method that will have you improvising freely in no time.

We’ll begin with the piano lesson “Reflections in Water” as an example. It’s a free lesson that everyone has access to. The beautiful thing about this lesson in particular is that you are given a way to play the chords that sound modern and you are given the chord progression to play. You are free to create your own melodies to these chords. You see, another thing that students often don’t get is that you need a set of limitations to improvise freely. Why? Because there are so many choices!

By giving you a certain Key, chords, and chord progression to play, I’m limiting your choices so you can focus on expressing yourself rather than trying to decide what chord to play. Eventually, when you understand how limitations work, you′ll be able to create your own set.

Now, with these parameters in place, we can sit down at the piano and spontaneously create music!

Criss Angel’s Third Season of MindFreak Packs a Wallop

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Master magician Criss Angel began season three of “MindFreak” with an episode that was nothing short of spectacular.

In this episode, his goal was to levitate 500 feet about the ground, above the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. At the top of the Luxor’s pyramid-shaped building is a light beam that shoot up into space — in fact, it’s the only man-made object (besides the Great Wall of China) that can be seen from space. This light beam is hot — 800 degrees Fahrenheit! This created another dangerous dimension to this demonstration: If he fell into the light, he would surely be burned to death.

Is this really mind over matter? Is it illusion? Or can Criss Angel actually levitate? And if he can levitate, can I learn to do that? What would it take? Can he line his psych himself up in such a way so as to defy the law of gravity? Can energetic thought actually uphold a person? What would those thoughts be? Can I think those thoughts?

Above him was a helicopter filming him. Below him, people in the streets captured the scene on their cameras. All around him in Las Vegas, on the streets and on their hotel room balconies, people witnessed him floating above the brilliant light of the Luxor’s pyramid.

“Criss Angel MindFreak” earned critical acclaim in its first two seasons, and delivered the biggest ratings numbers in A&ampE’s history. Criss demonstrates in each episode his visionary approach to his new breed of modern mysticism, giving homage to but going far beyond the confines of traditional magic.

In this episode, as he prepared to float above the lighted pyramid, he closed his eyes and took long, deep breaths, and seemed to go into a trance. At the last moment, he prayed to Jesus to keep him safe. His signature necklace of crosses and handcuffs seem to suggest he is a “slave” to Christ, although there’s some buzz among Christians on various forums that he’s the anti-Christ. Intense stuff there — he can walk on water, float through the air, make things disappear and appear, cut people in half, etc., etc. Maybe he has some pretty high connections …

But it’s the possibility of levitation itself that has my attention. Although I may be totally naive to think that it’s anything more than an illusion that he’s engineered. Still, as I investigate the Internet, I haven’t found a logical explanation for his achievement.

There is plenty of information about how someone can appear to levitate a foot or two off the ground, but not 500 feet off the ground. Perhaps his crew built some kind of see-through platform up on top of the pyramid that couldn′t be seen from the streets. But can someone actually learn to levitate? That’s what I want to know.

In Buddhism, it is believed that a person can reach a completely focused state of mind and learn to levitate. There are accounts of this phenomena happening in parts of Asia. Additionally, there are reported to be tribes in Africa and South America that practice magical acts, such as levitation. There have even been reports of African tribal inhabitants lifting themselves, along with physical possessions, such as cows!

It’s interesting to think about what the human brain can achieve. If it’s the kind of subject you’re interested in, a little surfing will turn up lots of information on the Internet, and there are books available on the subject at Amazon.com, as well. Happy trails!
