Digital Photography Introduction

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

With the acceptable image quality and the other advantages of digital photography the majority of professional news photographers have begun capturing their images with digital cameras. Digital photography has also been adopted by many amateur snapshot photographers, who take advantage of the convenience of the form when sending images by email, placing them on the World Wide Web, or displaying them in digital picture frames.

Also, one big advantage of digital photography is the instant review of pictures, with no wait for the film to be developed: if there’s a problem with a picture, the photographer can immediately correct the problem and take another picture (up to hundreds of photographs on the same media device).
Digital cameras have also been integrated into many cell phones. The photographer is able to color-balance and manipulate the image in ways that traditional darkroom science cannot offer, although film users can utilize the same technology with a film scanner. But digital cameras also tend to be much more sensitive to moisture and extreme cold. For this reason, photographers who work in remote areas, such as those who work for National Geographic overwhelmingly favor film SLR cameras. Many digital cameras can deliver only JPEG files.

Another format that may be encountered is RAW, which contain unprocessed image data straight from the camera’s image sensor. Compact digital cameras usually include zoom lens and flashes that cannot be changed, but digital single-lens reflex camera (digital SLR or DSLR), operates on the same optical and mechanical principles as a film single-lens reflex camera, and offers the possibility to change lenses. Recent manufacturers such as Nikon and Canon have promoted the adoption of digital Single-lens reflex cameras (dSLRs) by photojournalists. Lenses in

Dance: The Beautiful Art

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

It is natural to want to dance and move whenever we hear music. With the drum beat of a military march, we want to march in time the smooth circles of a waltz have the power to make us feel like twirling forever; and a lullaby makes us lilt our bodies into sleep. Dance is a natural expression and is a natural response to music that is heard externally or sometimes but rarely, it is in resonance with the sounds of inner joy, to which only the individual is privy.

Most people wish to dance, or enjoy dancing. It is a feature in the life of most people throughout the world who reveal the differences in their culture through the different types of music and the different styles of dance movement they develop in their traditional art. There is a different between the dance of a country barn dance or western line-up with a country band and the rap dancing with its accompanying intonation and sounds; between the tap dancers metallic beat to a popular tune and the ballet dancers soft pointed feet describing the patterns of a classical piece; the passionate guitar and strong heel beats of a Spanish flamenco and the smooth swirls of an Austrian circular waltz to the strains of a violin.

Music provides the powerful influence which we seek to express in movement and dance. In addition, if our own emotions are moved, we can convey how we feel by injecting our emotions into our physical movements. If music uplifts us, we may dance but wish we could fly and the best we can do is to raise our arms and elevate our bodies from the floor as best we can. If the music on the other hand is sombre, we would rather dress in garments of grey and drop our heads to respond in heavy deliberate movements to show what the music intends.

For the professional dancer, it is music which dictates the mood and demands that a dancer surrenders his body to that music, not just for his own pleasure, but for the sake of a wider purpose. Then the dancer surrenders to music as if it were the conductor, as he seeks to make his body its complete or final instrument .The dancer can only surrender to the music if he wishes his body to serve to express its influence. To dance to a rhythm without conscious thought is a pure reaction - it is not an art.

Dancers are agents of the music - there to express something of the spirit of his inspiration of the composer. If we like the music we are asked to dance to, there is an easy relationship and harmony between the music, the source of it and our bodies. It is all in tune and the dancer can add the ingredient of his own intelligence and pour his feeling through his body language. If we are not attracted to the music then the dancer is a mere puppet. In the future, to use a dancer without him having conscious desire to express the music will be seen as dancer abuse! It is not a true and fine example of the art form at all unless music and dancer are as one.

If we hear discordant sound and it is the fashion to move to it, one must be very skilled or insensitive or perhaps both in wishing to express chaos and discord. Life’s real discordant notes are only too well known in the reality of living without having to bold type it all. Modern times are difficult with little rhythm, melody or harmony in any popular music.

In discothèques the lighting makes jagged vibrations through the chaos and to a dancer who is sensitive to the loveliness and the harmonies of inspired music, it creates an atmosphere which is unintelligent, purposeless and insane. There can be no reason why such occasions are not banned because of the noise, so as to preserve the health and the hearing of everyone concerned. The brains of all who participate are damaged - to what extent, only the future will reveal. Participants do not deserve the name dancer but often are enslaved by drugs and the hypnotic drum beats.

Modern music is not harmonious. Therefore a dancer’s body must become jerky and strained, stretched to an extreme tension, tested beyond its inherent strength, making demands which are acrobatic, exaggerated, unnatural and unattractive in the main. Beauty is the ingredient which is neglected, even forgotten. And in judging the result, anyone witnessing such movement to such music may gasp at techniques which extend the boundaries of body capabilities - but which leave the audience empty.

Music is best understood as food for the soul. This was and remains the classical approach to the art which was dedicated to either the purpose of delighting the listeners, telling a story, honouring a greater person, state, ideal , expressing a nation’s spirit, or in spiritual dedication to religious worship and the glories of God. Music was an expression which served to enrich the listeners. At its best and most powerful, music can stir the spirits of thousands, who for a time experience the pleasure of a feeling of unity beyond the diversity in human life.

The dancer depends upon the music. Dance is music made visible!

Dance has always been a part of human culture and will no doubt remain so. In past eras, as in ancient Egypt, dancers were trained in the temples, dedicated to the gods, their art was sanctified and they were used within the powerful ritual which were used in ceremonies and outer rituals to involve the people and to amass group thought in prayer. In the ancient Indian traditions the temple dancers held also a place of respect and their music and dances were dedicated to the gods.

In ancient Greece and in fact, in all ancient civilizations, it was the same - there were the temple dances and there were the folk dances of the general populace.

In our western culture we have no such equivalent system which allows each to have its place. In fact in our Christian religion and worship there is no place and never one has been considered, for dancing.

So in our way of life, we are the poorer. We only have resort to the dancing of the masses - that which only expresses the spirit of the people - and this is always uninspired. But we have our classical music which has served to inspire many millions of people throughout the world. So in this, we have a ‘conductor’ but where are the dancers who can make their bodies instruments capable of expressing the exquisite sounds and spirit of such glorious arrangements of notes? There are thousands of dancers with skill but have they attunement to the spirit to fulfil the needs of the art?

There are many musicians trained in classical music and many dancers trained in classical dance. Surely they can support one another to act as twin arts in creating something really beautiful?

The “Truth”

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

It is true that TRUTH knows no death, no birth. It is eternal; has always been. Time cannot exhaust its force, for it carries its power within itself. Deep in the heart of truth is hidden an object we all are groping for and earnestly desire to taste from. It is power. It is power from the divine side of things. It is power. It is this you seek isn’t that so? The power to be good and understand the cause of life the power to bring relief and joy to suffering humanity; the power to shake yourself free from the bondage of your lower nature.

Consequently, it is also true that man always seeks to act out his good wishes, his good intention. He is here he clings to this, to that, to all. The cup of desire was presented to our lips, we drank it up. Its subtle force became embedded in the matrix of our being. It runs in our blood. We just watch it constant play and watching, say, ah! The cup was mixed too strongly″ the question is, are you satisfied with the crux of this matrix? Are you tired of being tossed about? Of being manipulated for the accomplishment of impermanent ends? Answer me, because I can sense you are thinking far?

We are tired of being in the grip of death. Despot, the devil? Of being ridden over roughs by the force of evil. Of being a slave to fear, a subject to wear and tear. Of being the blind worm of fate, the puppet of adverse conditions; conditions that cut up your opportunities in life into tiny bits and scatter same to the winds of heavens? Being hungry of worry of animalism, of worldism the most shallow and painful? In time, have you had your fill of slave?

Would you be what you will be? Then learn to say with doubtless courage, “I am master, not somewhere and sometimes, but everywhere and always. I will put my shoulders to the wheel and hew out my own path. My courage is indomitable. My spirit knows no flagging, no defeat, no despair, I am fearless and free” this you – the fallen soul, must learn to say with assurance based upon a clear knowledge of conditions of your existence, mark you this is quite clear.

man not being by any means a finished product of nature, but only a developing creature, full of immense potentialities, cannot, even if he would remain a permanent fixture in the narrow sphere of adversities, the ups and downs of life, are dashing up against his sleeping consciousness; they are so many blows to open up his mental curiosity and indomitable horizon. It is suffering that drives the lessons of where we came from home, and thus propel the dormant consciousness along the endless track of spiritual unfoldment. Thus extremes will always be met, and then what is the state of the stone you frequently see around you? Complete absence of thought. Perhaps a faint, imperceptible vibration. New, tell me what is the state of the highest man - the adapt - in the super conscious stage, in sublime spiritual unfoldment which Christ Jesus has come to show us - complete suspension of thought, complete quietude of the otherwise intensely active life force. Then is the adept in flesh the same as the stone? No! No! No! The difference is wide as the ocean the first is one of intense bliss, the last is one of total inertia.

From this viewpoint we can continue the parallel. Man’s physical equipment is played upon by three Special Forces: dual, residual and Omni dual. Taking the test first we see that Omni dual is inertia. The omni-dual man is lazy, dull, inactive and weighed down by his own himself. He is lifeless. Digestion and sex absorb his vital forces. His formula of life are eating, drinking and breeding. Having no strength, no inner force of character of control himself, resistance of evil is an utter impossibility to him. He plays today to the rich for the leaves and fishes of offices. He giggles. He cringes, he weeps; he whines; he goes about trying to please everybody and thus he pleases nobody. The smile of the rich is his sunshine. The empty praise of fools is his crowning glory and victory. When evil presses him down, he cries aloud: “What can I do? I am so weak, such a sinner! He is thus condemning himself. Unable to resist evil for he does not resist but simply sit down and wings his head and beats his breast - he hates himself and thereby being frustrated of life, “it is all kisnet″ is the wail! Ah! This superstition! How vice-like is it grip on the Omni dual man!

Another truth is far fetch, and we must be open to this truth. It is out of this nothingness that everything that ever lived and breathe knew what life was. To be honest with things, these creative entities were lied to. Man right from the beginning was a fallen soul trap in the universe, at which point despite man being a fallen, driven, rotten and bastardized souls still wish to return to its pristine maker who himself is holy and without sin. When The Almighty God through the corrupted souls away from his realm, he chastised them so that at the allotted time, Man in his free soul must return to him, the maker. These are unorthodox doctrine but this remains the only truth which has reigned over the years, and which man has denounced. the truth is hard to tell, but the supreme was never the maker of the heavens and the earth, rather the maker of Heaven and the earth is among the fallen souls with the souls of man, but who have managed to completely liberate himself and held man captive over the year through his silly method of cankerworm supremacy. There was a mystery he and the rest wise so-called souls – ‘Gods’ partially rotten souls knew a divine knowledge to man’s U-turn back to the original maker of his soul. And herein the ideas of the potential Lucifer was a cover to blackmail God himself on high, thereby a profane alibi was carried out.

In my slightest understanding our universal idea of God is not sufficient to quantify God in the first place. What we call God is not God, but a rotten soul like ours, who have found a way of manipulating his ways and dominion over the lives of other fallen souls. another chapter shall be set aside to deliberate on this argument but I will not fail to stress here that whether I will be called an anti-Christ or not, I remain a believe of the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ the son of the only Divine Living God, and not the Jehovah of the Israelite. Because to those who understand the bible, and have cared to question the manners in which the bible text was written, will care to ask those hidden moral and ethical questions; like why where we lied to in the first place? The bible said, that God said in the Beginning he created the heavens and the earth, and that the earth was void – void in this context is usually taken literally by the so-called Christians to mean that the Jehovah of Israel knew all, and that he was a pure soul. To say the least, he was never a pure soul, because only the almighty God who lives beyond heaven and earth, and who will not be party to sin knew all.

In a perfect analysis, God who is without sin and corruption cannot appropriate delight with the things of heaven and Earth, because in the first place, heaven is not our home, and perhaps the souls of men has no definite home. Like I said, they are driven rotten souls trapped in layers of void-ness, darkness and emptiness. But in this trapped-ness, somewhere more exposed to the real light than the others. In a nut share, it means that we all have same qualities with the God of Israel who has called himself several names to seem more sounder to believe in him as the Almighty God than the actual maker of all souls. And When Christ came into this world, he warned us typically of the crookedness of the real Satan.

In today diverse religious world, where religion has taken over the affairs of the world and has blinded men to see the real path towards their return home to God almighty. Lucifer and his cohort have designed ways to continue in their blindfoldment of the peoples of the world. It is somewhat true that in this age of technologies where the soul of man has nearly attained full spiritual maturity and haven realized their soul, and has gained their energy required to return to its maker; Lucifer and his cohort who has submitted their will to him are in a rampage to completely destroy what they have created with their unrighteous hands. Well they might called themselves the potter, I don’t really care what names they have given themselves, but whatever it is, I m not a party to it. I have vowed to serve the living God who is a spirit and which I cannot please with this my body or my rusticated soul. Like my humble friend right said, Jehovah murdered Jesus, because his coming which simply was not to die for my corrupted soul, but that even in our state of soul filthiness, that we may return to him – Almighty God, the father of Jesus Christ.

Now if we must live to the glory and fulfillment to shame the devil, we must be prepared to practically carry out all what Jesus said when he was alive. We must demonstrate that through knowledge we are advance in the scheme of things, and that we are liberated soul. The system Jesus taught was very simple, in most simplified language humans CAN understand; herein I mean the realized souls on their return home to their maker. When Jesus promised of his coming, he didn’t say he was going to take us to heaven, because that is not where he came, or the thousand year reign, which in my slightest opinion is reserved for another debate – but the purpose of this book is not to engage anyone in any religious debate, rather it is written to expose the liberated soul to the truth of the system of things as Jesus the Only Begotten son of God came to liberate men so that they can be conscious of the ways of their truth maker and open their eyes to the ideal God who has been their captor over billions of years now.

Let us reason on the system of the truth as it is applicable in our modern day, and these are the easiest principles, not the hardest ways as proposed by religious etiquette today.
However conquers the flesh before you question the mysteries of life. It would be the turning point in the life of the omni-dual man if he could say; “I will resist evil” His non-resistance is due to weakness and weakness alone. Then comes the residual man Full of activity; his brain toned up to a tremendous pitch of energy. “Nothing shall stand in my way,” is his determined cry” I will resist” he does not sit down and bemoan his lot. He does not talk of destiny, his evil star, his guardian angel, and his fate. He measures his strength by his resistance of all that would bar his progress. He strikes, he resist evil and thereby does the right thing. He paces through much storm and stress, toil and turmoil, but his spirit burns with a steady blaze waiting to embrace his true maker and owner of his soul, not the flickering Jehovah of Israel – the dictator. Nothing can crush him. At least this severe and continued fighting so tough and tones his fibres that he has but to fight a finger in order to bring others to his feet.

My Life is a simple one, a very well organized aspect of living. I grew up to be the man i had always wanted to be, and no matter, i will always be what i want to be in life, making those who trust in me very proud people. My Goal is to make a breakthrough in the area of art as it is in science, space, technology and Mathematics. As Mathematics has lead to higher truth, i believe beyond all reasonable doubt that reason alone in the contemporary issues of Humanity will also lead me to higher through. I have tried in my search to finding lasting solutions to the ethical problems of men, and that like the maze of life, we all must stand and pick up the bones, which in a nutshell has been left to rot.

Our lives in this world seems more maribound to those who watches our progress and compliment on them. My goal is certainly to be good, and righteous always. Being “Good” is the veritable source of our pride, honor and all we have fought for in this changing world. Life is good, but there is more to life than the eyes can see, because it also contains some unrealistic events happening.

Using Games to Make Language Learning Interesting, Innovative, and Fun

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

Games are Useful in Language Learning

We can successfully use games in the language learning classroom to teach and practice numerous skills including:

• Vocabulary

• Spelling

• Grammar and structure

• Idioms and expressions

• Pronunciation

• Listening and speaking

Factors Affecting Choice of Games

What kinds of games we can use will depend on their intended purpose. Whether it’s to introduce a topic, practice a particular skill or aspect, or reinforce previous learning topics games help by providing much-valued practice while effectively lowering the affective filter of the students (Krashen and Terrell, 1993). Other factors which can impact our choice of games are:

• The number of students

• The size of the classroom

• Classroom environmental aspects

• Length of time

• Materials, realia or aids available

Kinds of Games

We can vary the kinds of games considerably to help our students to make learning interesting, innovative and more fun. Useful and commonly-practiced games available for almost all teaching and learning venues consist of:

• Board games

• TPR and physical movement games

• Inter-active games

• Strategy games

• Online and computer games

Create Good Language Learners

By using a wide variety of language learning games in the EFL or ESL classroom the teacher is able to promote a number of qualities which positively contribute to a lowered affective filter and improved language acquisition. You should include games among your strategies to promote these qualities that make for a good language learner (Rubin, 1975)

• Willing and accurate guessing

• Language related Risk-taking

• Uninhibited communication

• Spontaneous language practice

• Self-monitoring of speech

• Attention to language meaning

Where and How

Where you can get an ongoing variety of pre-produced games, how to use them creatively in the EFL or ESL classroom and techniques for creating your own games customized to meet the needs of your students will be discussed in future postings.

How To Spot A Vulnerable Horse Racing Favourite

Monday, October 30th, 2006

As the popularity of the betting exchanges grows, so more and more people are looking to profit from horse racing by laying horses to lose. But what is the best strategy? On the face of it, one might think that simply betting that the outsider will lose is a quick way to make easy money. In reality, the best horse to bet against is the race favourite.

Betting that the outsider at 20/1 will lose will be fine to start with, and doubtless you will soon develop a winning run of profits. However, sooner rather than later that 33/1 shot with ‘absolutely no chance’ will come home in front, and you may well have laid him at a price of 52.00 (for example) on Betfair. BOOM! There goes all your hard-earned winnings, and more!

Generally a horse will be the favourite because it has the weight of the market’s money behind it, which forces the price down. Simple economics. There will be a point however, where the horse’s price is too low compared to it’s actual chance of winning. Beyond this ‘true’ price is where the layers will start to make a profit.

So we go ahead with this strategy, and we proceed to lay every favourite, right? Wrong.

Horse racing favourites are often priced too low. This is how bookmakers have made their profit for generations. But they are not priced too low every time – sometimes a favourite is the most likely horse to win a race for very good reason.

If we took the simplified approach of laying every favourite, after a while betting on the exchanges we would remain around the break even point, because the exchange markets are a very efficient barometer of probability. However, after paying commission on our winnings, we would watch our account slowly draining away like water down a plug-hole. Not good.

So how do we know which favourites are true favourites, and which are weak or vulnerable?

One method is to analyse the positive aspects of a horse’s form. It will not surprise you to learn that more favourites win when they have fewer question marks against them. This is not rocket science, but taking the time to separate strong contenders from weak favourites will give you the ‘edge’ to make that all-important profit.

Below is a list of form criteria you can apply to the market leader in any given race:

1. Horse and Class: Must have shown the ability or obvious potential to seriously compete in the class of today’s race.

2. Horse and Track: Must have proven ability on either today’s track or one with similar characteristics.

3. Horse and Recent Form: Analysis of general form over the last few weeks.

4. Horse and Race Distance: Must have shown the ability or obvious potential to run competitively over today’s distance.

5. Horse and Draw: Highlight any obvious disadvantage if applicable.

6. Horse and Going: Must have shown an obvious ability to handle today’s ground.

7. Trainer and Track: Trainer must have at least a 10% strike rate on today’s track.

8. Trainer and Recent Record: Trainer must have had at least two placed or one winning horse in the last 14 days.

9. Jockey and Track: Jockey must have at least a 10% strike rate on today’s track.

Rating a favourite as ‘weak’ or otherwise is entirely subjective, but you may determine (for example) that a horse with 3 or more question marks or negatives over their form would be considered a horse worth opposing.

As always the question of price will come into the equation. A horse with several boxes left to ‘tick’ in the list above may be a favourite in a weak race at 5/1. This may be a fair price, and you may not want to get involved in laying him to lose.

On the other hand, when a 2yo filly steps hoof onto the track for the first time, and is offered at odds-on simply because she is ridden by Frankie Dettori on behalf of the Godolphin training empire, then you may want to consider taking her on.

In summary: race favourites are often a profitable source of potential Lay Bets, as they are often ‘over-bet’ and offered at prices too low compared to their actual chance of winning. Take the time to analyse key aspects of the horse’s form and judge whether they are a ‘strong’ or ‘weak’ favourite. If you decide they are vulnerable to defeat and the price is short enough, then you have identified a good lay bet.

Why Most Independent Artists Fail

Monday, October 30th, 2006

This is a question that I am most commonly asked. The answer is
pretty simple – most independent artist do not understand that
concept of marketing let alone online marketing.

Obviously I can not cover an entire marketing course in this article
but I can however give you a few facts that will put you on the right
road.

The first thing that you MUST do is learn to put yourself in the
shoes of your target audience or in this case your fans. That is a
lot easier said than done. Without a fan base you do not have a
music career.

As a independent artist it is crucial that you own your own domain
name. If you have MySpace as your primary internet presence you are
making a huge mistake. Now before you go on a rant allow me to explain.

If you are using MySpace as your Internet presence you are placing
your entire career in the hands of another company. Lets say that
you have spent your time and effort in promoting your MySpace page
and everyone knows that is where they can find you. You wake up
tomorrow to realize that MySpace has decided to shut down while the
getting is good. Where does that put you? I’ll tell you where back
at square one!

No I’m not suggesting that you forget about MySpace I’m just telling
you it is a bad idea to have MySpace as your primary website.

MySpace should be used to drive traffic back to your domain, where
you have control over your destiny.

Another common mistake that I see independent artist doing is they
fail to invest in the business aspect of their careers. No I am
going to guess that when you just read that last sentence you
probably said to yourself, “I do invest into my career.” If you do
not have at least one Internet Marketing book or eBook you my friend
are on the wrong track.

I can pretty much bet that you have your webpage set up all wrong.
Nine out of ten independent artist’s websites are what I like to
call, “look at me websites.” The harsh reality of it all is nobody
knows you! When a potential fan comes to your site they have one
thing on their mind and one thing only, and that is WIIFM! That
stands for “What’s In It For Me!” They want to know what do you have
to offer them – why should they come to your website over the million
other independent artist? This is were your marketing strategies
come into play!

I know this is going to sound a little crazy but lets role play for a
few minutes. Let’s say that you are a country music fan (the genre
doesn’t matter) and you go to a website and a video pops with a young
lady on it and she says, “I just want to thank all of my fans, for
showing up at my last concert, and I appreciate your support… In
fact I have two free tracks that I just posted for you online… Let me
show you where to go download them now.” POW the video ends and you
are automatically taken to a special download area exclusively for
the fans!

How do you think that would make a fan feel? Do you think that
someone would actually go and download the special fan tracks –
located is an exclusive area… Your dog on right they will.

I hope that this article sparked that marketing genius that dwells
deep inside of all of us. I wish you the best of luck with your
music career and I hope that I have the opportunity to do a personal
interview with you real soon.

Concerts - Smoke On The Water

Monday, October 30th, 2006

In this article we’re going to tell the true behind the scenes story of one of the most famous songs in rock history that was actually the result of an incident at a concert.

Everyone knows the song “Smoke On The Water”. Every kid who ever picked up a guitar for the first time plunked out that four chord blues riff. For many kids, it’s the only thing they were ever able to play. And many of these kids think they know the story of how that song was recorded. Yes, there was a fire, a bad one. But what most, if not all of them, don’t realize is that the fire that broke out that day was during a Frank Zappa and the Mothers Of Invention concert.

The date was December 7, 1971. It was thirty years after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Maybe that should have been an omen. Certainly this was not an insignificant date in history.

Anyway, Deep Purple, the band who recorded “Smoke On The Water″ was setting up their camp in Montreux, Switzerland to record their next album. They were going to use a mobile recording studio to do this which they rented from The Rolling Stones, known as their Rolling Stones Mobile Studio. They set up at the Montreux Entertainment Complex which was part of their casino. This is referred to as the “gambling house″ in the lyrics of the song.

Well, on the eve of their recording session Frank Zappa and The Mothers Of Invention were performing live in concert at the casino’s theater. They were to perform a number of their popular songs including the epic “The Nancy & Mary Music”, “Sharleena”, “Duke Of Prunes”, and “Hungry Freaks Daddy”. Frank Zappa was strange to say the least. However, before they could really get into the meat of their performance a fire broke out during the concert. It was said to have been caused by a Swiss fan shooting a flare gun at the ceiling, as was stated in the “some stupid with a flare gun” line that ultimately destroyed the entire casino complex, along with all of Frank Zappa and The Mother’s equipment.

The smoke on the water that was talked about in the song was the smoke from the fire that spread over all of Lake Geneva. From their hotel across the way from the casino, the members of Deep Purple watched the fire burn and the smoke cover the lake. In the lyrics they mention a “funky Claude” running in and out. This was actually the director of the Montreux Jazz Festival running in and out of the casino trying to get people to safety.

The aftermath of all this was that Deep Purple had no place to record and Frank Zappa and the Mothers were part of the most famous concert in history to get cancelled mid way through.

Deep Purple eventually found another place to record, using a near empty Montreux Grand Hotel. They converted its hallways into a makeshift recording studio.

As for Frank Zappa, the concert was cancelled and never rescheduled. But he had become a part of history that little kids with electric guitars will be thankful for, for a very long time.

From Granny’s Journal: Wisdom and Humor

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Over the years I have learned many bits and pieces of wisdom and knowledge. I wish to share this valuable experience. 1. Don’t eat cottage cheese or spinach for lunch unless you bring a toothbrush to work with you. The same goes for eating broccoli. 2. One advantage to old age is if you change your mind about giving an item to a relative and take it back, you are not an Indian giver; you are senile. “Forgive Granny. She is senile.” If you forget something, you have “old timers disease.” This can work against you, too. My daughter told me that I promised to watch her children one Saturday and I could not remember but didn’t want to tell her that. Later, thinking back, I was sure that I didn’t make that promise.

When children are little they think mom and dad know everything. Then when they become teenagers, they know everything and mom and dad don’t know much. When the youngsters turn twenty, all of a sudden the parents get smart again. The offspring actually start being nice to you and hold conversations with you and acknowledge your existence. There is a reason. I just figured it out. It is not because they are no longer difficult teens. It is because you are the only one old enough to buy beer.

The Value of an Astrology Birth Chart

Sunday, October 29th, 2006

An Astrology birth chart is something meant for predicting your future. Whether you believe it or not, there is a grain of truth in all these talk about birth signs and horoscopes. I wasn’t a believer until recently, when some strange events happened to show me that actually my horoscope has indeed predicted, to a great extent, the consequences that ensued!

I started to search for more information about astrology birth charts, and I soon became huddled with information. I also decided to make my personal astrology birth chart, just to take a look and see if things were similar. The astrology birth chart is done with the personal information about the time of birth, date, place and location of birth.

You can have your astrology birth chart drawn in a format that is easy to comprehend. Although each specific civilizations devised its own astrology birth chart based on the celestial chart as seen from that specific region, there is a lot of sense making things in European and Chinese birth charts. It just depends on the perspective you choose to look through. You can find a meaning in both astrology birth charts, and even gain some important information about yourself from analyzing them.

Astrology birth charts are different according to which astrology system they are related. Chinese and oriental charts bring different meaning, European charts have another hidden treasure for you. It just depends on your personal preference: you may believe in both of them, as long as you find something to learn from them, it doesn’t matter whether you consider yourself a Leo or a Rat.

Astrology birth charts cannot tell you your precise future, but they can give you some advice and can show you deeper levels of your personality. By just reading them you can get insight about hidden characteristics in your soul, and can gain better understanding of yourself.

The Truth about Reality

Sunday, October 29th, 2006

Many people argue that there is no such thing as reality, that what we are living in is kind of like The Matrix. Nothing is real, and what we feel isn’t real. People say there is no point to life, and insult people who have goals. There is a point to life, at least a very basic point, and it is directly related to our physical feelings.

People can say that we don’t feel anything and all emotions are fake, but there is one thing that nobody can ignore. It is logical to argue that happiness, sadness, and those kinds of emotions aren’t real, as we can ignore those feelings. However, the physical sensation that no human can ignore is pain. Pain is the most real thing in the entire world. No matter how much someone things life isn’t real, pain is the one medicine that brings anyone back to reality. Physical pain is the absolute worst feeling in the world, it is the thing we cannot ignore and must stop everything we are doing to attend to. That is the basis behind fear, we have an enormous fear of getting hurt, because the sensation it causes is unbelievable.

So, back to the point of life. The point of life is simply to avoid as much pain as possible. Sure, someone could kill themselves, but sometimes that can cause a lot of pain, and before one does it they have to go through a period of immense fear, which while is in no comparison as bad as pain, is still a bad feeling that is somewhat similar to pain. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid it, and if you don′t, well, you’ve failed life.

Imagine for a second there was no such thing as pain. The world would be a very different place, and the death rate would be extremely high. While pain is the worst feeling in the world, it is also the most necessary one. Without it, we wouldn’t know when we were hurting ourselves, and would die without any warning of death coming. So while one may wish pain to go away, it unfortunately needs to be there.

While there may be many mysteries to life, whether we are not real is not a question. Pain is the evidence that we are real, the thing that shows us we are actually in existence. If we weren’t real, we would not have pain, because pain is too real to exist in a world of nonexistence. To prove this mathematically (some things need to be assumed), p –> q, which would be no pain implies no reality. Therefore, ~ p –> ~q, or pain implies reality, and because pain is true in our world, reality is true.
